Alliance 90/Green Party

Germany's Greens achieved their first electoral success at the state level in 1977 and won Bundestag representation in 1983. It is a grassroots democratic party which has become an established presence in the German political landscape.
Together with the eastern-based Alliance 90 (Bündnis 90), the Greens won 47 seats in the Bundestag in the 2002 federal elections, allowing it to continue its ruling government coalition with the Social Democratic Party.
