Malama Solomon

Malama Solomon was chosen by Governor Neil Abercrombie in December 2010 to represent Hawaii's Senate District 1 on the 2011 Hawaii State Legislature. District 1's elected Senator Dwight Takamine was appointed by Governor Neil Abercrombie to serve as director of the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations. District 1 includes the areas of Hamakua and South Hilo on the island of Hawaii.

Political history

  • served in the state Senate from 1983 to 1998
  • trustee for the Office of Hawaiian Affairs from 1980 to 1982
  • lieutenant governor candidate on the 2006 Democratic ticket with Randy Iwase that lost to Linda Lingle

Employment history

  • former University of Hawaii-Hilo affiliate professor and a Hawaiian studies teacher.
