The 12th Congressional District of California covers northern and central San Mateo County and the southwest part of San Francisco County. Democrat Rep. Jackie Speier won a special election on April 8, 2008 to fill the remainder of Rep. Tom Lantos's term which ended in January 2009. Rep. Speier went on to win a full term to the 12th district in November 2008.
