Rep. Juanita Millender-McDonald (D) died on April 22, 2007. There will be a special election to fill her open seat in the 37th district of California. The election will be on June 26th, with a runoff on August 21st.

- Jenny Oropeza (D) - State Senator
- Valerie McDonald (D) - daughter of Rep. McDonald
