Christian Social Union
From dKosopedia
The Christian Social Union (Christlich-Soziale Union, or CSU) operates exclusively in the state of Bavaria, while its sister party the CDU operates in the rest of Germany. Thus, the CSU maintains a permanent electoral alliance with the CDU, and forms part of any CDU-led national government. It was founded in 1945 by Franz Josef Strauss, who remained the party's leading figure until his death in 1988. The current head is Edmund Stoiber.
The CSU won 10 seats in the 1999 elections to the European Parliament, and 58 seats in the 2002 elections to the Bundestag.
