Election Assistance Commission

From dKosopedia

The Election Assistance Commission, formerly headed by DeForest Soaries, is now headed by Paul DeGregorio. During the late 1970's and early 1980's, DeGregorio was an assistant to former Missouri Attorney General and former U.S. Attorney General John David Ashcroft. Both were appointed by President George W. Bush.

Brad Friedman of the Brad Blog posted the transcript of an unaired major broadcast network interview with Soaries in which Soaries claimed to have resigned in frustration.

Caroline Hunter has been nominated to replace DeGregorio. Her lack of experience has been criticized.

One of the commission's functions is to certify independent testing labs for electronic voting machines. In the summer of 2006, it barred one of the labs (CIBER) because of lax quality control procedures.
