Unwilling
France was not part of the so-called "Coalition of the Willing," the countries which invaded and are now suffering through the occupation of Iraq. Anger in the United States among conservatives over the French refusal to follow the second Bush adminsitration into the quagmire erupted into calls to boycott French products. Although noisy, the boycott was unsuccessful because Bible Belt America consumes few of the luxury products produced by French industries. The Republic of France appears to have survived the Red State temper tantrum. The English language suffered worse, being enhanced by such terms as 'freedom fries', 'old Europe' and 'cheese-eating surrender monkeys'.
