Great Depression

The Great Depression, for almost all of the period from 1929-1941, was the greatest economic downturn in U.S. history. It is associated with the fall of President Herbert Hoover, the rise of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the Dust Bowl and the great stock market crash. It gave rise to the New Deal, of which Social Security, the FDIC and the SEC are among the most important legacies.
