Greenhouse gasses

From dKosopedia

Greenhouse gasses are those component's of a planet's atmosphere that cause the atmosphere to retain energy that otherwise would have radiated back into space. The greenhouse gas having the greatest impact on earth's retention of heat is carbon dioxide. Prior to our wholesale use of fossil fuels such as coal and petroleum, the only known cause of major increases in greenhouses was major volcanic emissions.
