Hamas

From dKosopedia

Hamas or Harakat al-Muqawama al-Islamiyya or the Islamic Resistance Movement (the Arabic acronym means "zeal") is the dominant Palestinian Sunni Islamist political party that currently forms the majority party of the Palestinian National Authority. As is true of Islamist political parties elsewhere in the Middle East, Hamas emerged to fill the vacuum left when secular leftist political parties were repressed by authoritarian regimes, or in this case by a foreign occupier.

The 36 articles of the Hamas Covenant itemize the political party's Sunni Islamist beliefs. Hamas is identified as the Muslim Brotherhood in Palestine.

Whether Isreal and/or the United States recognizes Hamas as the official representatives of Palestinians is a hot issue for Zionists.
