Internet
From dKosopedia
The Internet has its roots in research conducted in the early 60's by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)--also known at times as ARPA. The earliest version of the Internet, ARPANET, could be said to have been born in October, 1969 with the first host-to-host message passed over a network.
As U.S. Senator, Al Gore played a key role in helping fund new networking technologies that expanded the Internet "backbone," resulting in the powerful social and economic phenomenon that we know today.
