Category: Colleges and Universities
Founded in 1945, the Ivy League consists of the following eight colleges and universities:
- Harvard (Cambridge, Massachusetts)
- Princeton (Princeton, New Jersey)
- Yale (New Haven, Connecticut)
- Dartmouth (Hanover, New Hampshire)
- Brown (Providence, Rhode Island)
- Cornell (Ithaca, New York)
- Columbia (New York City, New York)
- Univerity of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)
The Ivy League's most visible cooperation is in the form of a common athletic conference, where teams from each of the eight universities play one another to determine League champions. However, the "Ancient Eight" also set common admissions and financial aid policies (along with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology), and their alumni often participate together in joint social and civic activities.
