Talk:John Kerry

Article Structure

--wegerje 09:15, 3 Jun 2004 (PDT) I added a differences with Kerry section. Maybe it should go somewhere else or maybe it should be in several places.

--MaxomaiI've copied some sections from Wikipedia, with the appropriate notice. Obviously this should only be a starting point.

--Apascover 15:43, 28 Jun 2004 (PDT) In the policies section there should be a discussion of taxes -- outside of Iraq/foreign policy, this is Kerry's most dramatic difference with the current Administration -- the return of that money to the fisc (or, alternatively, the increasing pain from post-election escalation of the cuts) will significantly impact the federal government's ability to provide social programs that progressives consider essential.

Photos

--Jumbo 22:24, 31 May 2004 (PDT) Old photo was better. Someone seems to be blandifying the photos. I don't see anything wrong with a photo of dubya looking goofy, and Kerry looking young and sexy. dKosopedia must stay funky! --Maxomai I Agree with Jumbo. Put the Lennon photo back!

--Maxomai This photo is from Kerry's Senate web page. Surely we can use that resource?

--Jumbo 23:39, 31 May 2004 (PDT)upload it. will people get mad if we use them all?

--Maxomai I'm not sure we *can* upload it. Linking to another site is one thing, but uploading it has copyright implications. And whoever took that photo is going to have something to say about it, because it's a going to be a fantastically famous shot.

--Jumbo 23:51, 31 May 2004 (PDT) I don't get that? If you're not making money of it, what's the big deal. I can see how you could complain if we were selling JK and J. Lennon shirts and pocketing the profits. I have a feeling if copywrite issues came up, they could be easily settled out of court. I say go for it till we get the cease & desist letter.

--Maxomai It's not a money issue, actually. By loading the photo onto the site, we're putting it under the GNU FDL. That means we're certifying that it's available for *anyone* to use, including to print on a t-shirt. We can't do this unless the photo is either licensed under a GNU FDL-compatible open-content license, or the photo is public domain. OTOH Hotlinking is just a plain old copyright violation as far as I know, and would probably cause a lot less damage. (IANAL)

Event Planning

Random Thought I just was spending a little time doing my daily positive visualizations and I was thinking about what it'll be like when Kerry beats Bush, and I then I got to thinking it'll be cool being the person who gets to edit the Kerry dKosopedia page and update it on election night when he wins. It might be fun to turn it into a like a prize and have a little ceremony type thing. Raffle off the honor as a fundraiser, give it to a celebrity guest, let Kos do it, whatever. I have a feeling election nights' gonna be a raging KosFest so it'd be neat to have geeky little "events" like this as part of the festivites.--Jumbo 00:08, 2 Jun 2004 (PDT)

Tuning the Wording

Differences Section

At the risk of overcaution, i'd like to avoid possibly corrupting the facts in getting the wording right. The article says "fumigation of drug crops" which can be a technically accurate but obtuse way of saying "aerial defoliation". I didnn't chagne the wording, just in case what is being described is really ground-based spraying of defoliants. --Iks(TkPg) 07:47, 11 Jun 2004 (PDT)
