Jon Kyl
From dKosopedia
Jon Llewellyn Kyl (born April 25, 1942, Oakland, Nebraska) is a Republican Senator, representing Arizona. On February 10, 2011, Sen. Kyl announced that he would not seek reelection in 2012. [1]
Jon Kyl went to the University of Arizona, and graduated with honors. His wife is Caryll Collins, and they have two children and four grandchildren. Before entering into politics, he was a lawyer with Jennings, Strouss & Salmon in Phoenix, Arizona. His father was John Kyl, a US Representative for Iowa.
He served in the House of Representatives from 1987-1995. He was elected to the Senate in 1994 and re-elected to the Senate in 2000 and 2006. He became minority whip in December 2007.
He promotes the standard Right-Wing positions of lower taxes, increasing miltary spending, manditory sentencing laws and the "war on drugs", etc. He is a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Finance Committee, Energy and Natural Resources Committee, and Intelligence Committee. He is also chairman of the Steering Committee, as well as chairman of the ridiculously named Committee on Committees.

Regime Change
- Although Kyl wants the United States and its allies to intensify pressure on Iran to halt its nuclear program, he thinks the Iranian regime has to go. "But ultimately," he said, "there must be change in the country's leadership. The current Iranian government is a corrupt and dangerous regime that's out of step with its citizens." Source: Liz Sidoti. "Many Members of Congress Advocate Tough Approaches toward Iran." Associated Press. January 25, 2006. "Corrupt and dangerous" and "out of step with its citizens" are good descriptions of the second Bush administration but Kyl was referring to the government in Teheran. Here's an obvious question for the bellicose Arizonan: Why would the Iranian government negotiate an agreement to give up its nuclear weapons program, either a bargaining chip or as the means to obtain an impressive miltiary deterrent, when they believe that foreign elites like Kyl want to overthrow them anyway?
Fun Facts!
- Kyl once sent a letter urging the chairman of the Latvian Parliament not to expel one Joachim Siegerist from the body (for a lack of Latvian language proficiency). Siegerist, a native of Germany, had previously been sentenced to 18 months in prison there for inciting racial hatred, and his political organization (Die Deutschen Konservativen e.V.) had been classified by the government as "radically right-wing."
