Hawaii Island Land Trust

The Hawai'i Island Land Trust, formerly known as the Kona Land Trust (KLT), was formed in 2001 with the assistance of an organizational grant from the Trust for Public Lands. KLT is a community-based, non-political, non-profit corporation whose purpose is to provide an inclusive approach to land preservation on the island of Hawai'i. Working in cooperation and collaboration with the local community, KLT's mission is accomplished by interacting with landowners and managers who voluntarily choose to protect their land. KLT consults and collaborates with private organizations and government to coordinate and optimize a variety of private and public resources. The objective of KLT is to furtherthe interests of landowners and land conservation through a variety oftools such as voluntary easements and land donations or purchases. [1]
