Public Option

From dKosopedia

In health care, a Public Option is a plan paid for by the government from taxes and premiums, in competition with private health insurance. Supporters want this competition "to keep the insurance companies honest", while detractors call it "unfair competition" and claim that it is intended to destroy the insurance companies as a prelude to forcing everybody into a Single Payer plan.
