Republican Newspeak
From dKosopedia
Republican Newspeak is the purposeful corruption of the meanings of words in the English language for political advantage. The use of a cloying euphemism as an apology for incompetence or failure is a Republican favorite.
The term Newspeak comes from George Orwell's classic dystopia1984.
Examples
- Phil Gingrey dropped a eupehemism on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives on April 5, 2006 by substituting the term "plussed-up" for the standard English word "increase" when referring to increases in government spending by the Republican Congressional majority.
