Ronald Lee Wyden (born May 3, 1949) is Oregon's senior United States Senator. He is a member of the Democratic Party. He was born in Wichita, Kansas.

Before his election to the Senate in 1996, he served 15 years in the U.S. House of Representatives. Wyden attended the University of California, Santa Barbara on a basketball scholarship before receiving his B.A. with distinction from Stanford University. He received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Oregon School of Law and taught gerontology at several Oregon universities. Senator Wyden's home is in Portland, Oregon; he has four children, Adam, Lilly, William Peter, and Ava Rose. Senator Wyden believes in equals rights, and is pro-choice. He is also committed to public education.

Ron Wyden holds the Senate seat once held by his mentor, the late Wayne Morse. After defeating Representative Peter DeFazio in the 1995 Democratic Party Primary Election for the party nomination to run in the January 1996 Special Election for the U.S. Senate, Wyden defeated State Senate President Gordon Smith, who has since been elected to Oregon's other U.S. Senate seat. That seat became open following the resignation of Bob Packwood, the man who had defeated Morse.

In the Senate, Wyden serves on the following Committees: Commerce, Science and Transportation; Select Intelligence; Environment and Public Works; Energy and Natural Resources, Budget and the Special Committee on Aging. In addition, Senator Wyden serves on the Forest and Public Land Management and Science, Technology and Space subcommittees.

Wyden was elected to a full terms since 1998. In 2004, he was elected to another full term, receiving 64% of the vote compared to 31% for his main opponent, Republican Al King. In 2010, Wyden won another 6 year term with 57% of the vote over Jim Huffman his Republican opponent with 39% of the vote.

On December 20, 2010 Wyden underwent surgery for prostate cancer.
