Secretary of State races 2006

Summary

Republican incumbents were defeated in California and Minnesota and the Democratic incumbent lost in Alabama. In the open seats, Republicans replaced Democrats in the southern states of Georgia and Louisiana. Democrats replaced Republicans in the swing states of Ohio and Nevada. Candidates of the same party replaced outgoing incumbents in Iowa, New Mexico, and Rhode Island which will continue with Democrats and Wyoming and Colorado, which will stay Republican.
