Rep. Jo Ann Davis (R), who represented Virginia's 1st congressional district passed away on October 4, 2007, from breast cancer. The nominees were chosen by pary conventions.

Comments: This is a Republican leaning district that gave racist George "Macacca" Allen 54% vs Jim Webb in the 2006 U.S. Senate campaign However Allen got a smaller percent of votes than Bush had just to years previously. At the Republican nominating convention, Whittman beat out 10 other challengers, including former Club for Growth president Paul Jost.
Results: Wittman won by 63 - 35%.
