Tanzania is an impoverished East African country bordering Kenya and Uganda to the north, Rwanda and Burundi to the northwest, Zambia to the southwest, and Malawi and Mozambique to the south. The capital is Dar es Salaam.
In 2000 Tanzania had a population of 34.8 million. By 2025 that will increase to 53.4 million. The 2003 per capita Gross National Income is only $300. The 2003 refugee population was 649,000, the fourth largest number after Pakistan, Iran, and Germany.
