Arkansas Project

From dKosopedia

The Arkansas Project is the generally used name for a series of "investigations" funded mostly by right-wing extremist and billionaire Richard Mellon Scaife. The name was for a working group within his The American Spectator publication whose specific aim was to locate and create dirt on the Clintons in order to smear them, in hopes of removing President Bill Clinton from office.

It is from within this group that David Brock, then a right-wing hatchet-man, started the "Troopergate" scandal. In an ironic twist, Brock (who later founded Media Matters for America) apologized to the Clintons in an article in Esquire in April, 1998 saying that accounts in the original article in The American Spectator were simply made up as part of an anti-Clinton crusade on the part of Scaife's Arkansas Project.
