Background
The 13th District comprises most of Hudson county and parts of Essex, Union and Middlesex counties. West New York, Weehawken, Hoboken, Guttenberg, Harrison, East Newark, Elizabeth and Perth Amboy are located in this district, as are downtown and waterfront Jersey City. The district also encompasses Port Newark/Elizabeth Marine Terminal, the East Coast's busiest commercial port and container ship facility.
Menendez is the former mayor of Union City, NJ, home to the largest concentration of Cuban-Americans outside of Miami.
Fun Facts!
- Menendez's top in-district staffer, Jose Manuel Alvarez, quit his post in 2000 to switch parties and become a Republican.
