Boris Yeltsin was the last President of the Russian Republic under the Soviet Union, a post he won in 1990, he then helped negotiate the end of the Soviet Union in 1991 and served as the first President of an independent Russia from 1992 until 1999, when Vladimir Putin, a former KBG official appointed Prime Minister by Boris Yeltsin became the second President of an independent Russia.
