Brian Schatz

From dKosopedia

Brian Schatz (born Oct. 20, 1972), a member of the Democratic Party was first elected to the Hawaii State House of Representatives of the Hawaii State Legislature in 1998. Currently, he represents the 25th Representative district which includes the areas of Tantalus, Makiki and McCully on the island of Oahu. Schatz ran in and lost the 2006 primary for Hawaii's 2nd congressional district, vacated by Rep. Ed Case.

Rep. Schatz is one of the more progressive members of the legislature and has an excellent environmental voting record. Schatz was recently awarded Community Leader of the Year by Pacific Business News, and he currently runs a nonprofit social service agency called Helping Hands Hawaii.

Dan Boylan, in a Midweek article dated April 5, 2006, reported the following:

Schatz describes himself as “pro-business and pro-environment.” He counts as his greatest legislative accomplishment his support for Act 221, the high technology tax incentive.
“It has created between 800 and 1,000 jobs per year,” he says. “Good paying jobs in the range of $45,000 to $50,000.”
He also takes pride in the 2004 session’s tripling of the Department of Education’s school maintenance and repair budget. [1]

Schatz is a graduate from Punahou, an elite private school on the island of Oahu. He has a BA from Pomona College in Philosophy.

Schatz got elected as Democratic Party of Hawaii Chair on May 25, 2008.
