Carolyn McCarthy

Carolyn McCarthy is a Democratic congresswoman representing the 4th district of New York. She was first elected to congress in 1996 as a Republican, then she switched to the Democratic party in 2003.
Her husband was murdered by a madman in 1993, and she won election to Congress by defeating an incumbent who wanted to repeal the Assault Weapons ban. While in Congress, she has sponsored many gun safety bills. McCarthy worked as a nurse for 30 years, and she has one son and two grandchildren.
