Tag:cleanup jobs

From dKosopedia

For those wanting a specific job in the Daily Kos Diary Tag Cleanup Project you will find a few listed below. Some of these are fairly large; taking care of a portion of a job is helpful.

This page will change constantly as tags are cleaned up and new jobs are listed. There are occasional discussions of tags in the discussion page here, the discussion page of the Tag Editors' Workspace, comments in Jotter's diaries, and in diaries with the tag "tags". From time to time, those of us listed on the Tag Librarians page exchange email to work out what the best tag for a situation is.

Announcement

The Daily Kos site published new rules of tagging today, which completely overturn the way we've been doing tag cleanup. As a result, all current jobs have been withdrawn.

We hope to determine shortly whether cleanup jobs are reasonable and feasible under the new guidelines. If they are—if a revision is possible—we will then add back jobs that may still be done. — Sardonyx 16:27, 12 September 2007 (PDT)

Ongoing Tag checks

Daily Recurring Tags

These incorrect tags have been fixed, but people reuse them every day anyway. Check them as frequently as you can, even before you start on jobs up top; the most likely correct tags are listed next to each entry, but make sure it's the right one before making any changes. Consider adding a comment mentioning the tag change and reason why if you catch it within 24 hours of the diary being posted to educate the diarists. Bad Bush tags mount up quickly.
Update: tags fixed as of 16:24, 30 December 2007 (PST). Update this update note as appropriate.

Frequently Recurring Tags

These incorrect tags have been fixed, but people reuse them a few times a week anyway. Check them a couple of times a week; the most likely correct tags are listed next to each entry. Consider adding a comment mentioning the tag change and reason why if you catch it within 24 hours of the diary being posted to educate the diarists.
Update: tags fixed as of 22:00, 20 November 2007 (PST).

Adding Recurring Tags

These tags were previously fixed, but under the new rules, we are not allowed to change them. Do not touch!!! However, we believe that they are very much worth maintaining, so please add the suggested tag to the tag that the diarist used (if it isn't already there), while leaving the listed tag there.

Because the listed tag doesn't go away, these will grow in size. However, you only need to check those diaries added since the date listed in the Update below:
Update: tags fixed as of 19:23, 01 October 2007 (EDT). Update this update note as appropriate.

Not using full names in tags

When names are used both the first and last names should be included, and in cases like the George Bushes, the middle initials are essential.

Job: As you are reading diaries, check the tags to make certain that names of individuals are tagged as full names. Make sure that there is a period and a space after each initial when used.

If you are unsure of the first name and it is not provided in the diary itself, check the List of Most Used Tags Page to see if it is listed there, or enter it into the Tag search. Otherwise, Google or Wikipedia may help.

Consider adding a comment mentioning the tag change and need to use full names if you catch it within 24 hours of the diary being posted to educate the diarists.

"Recommended" tag

Diaries that actually make the sought after Recommended list are supposed to get the "Recommended" tag. Regrettably, from time to time someone simply puts that tag in their diary or someone else who likes the diary adds it when the diary itself doesn't get enough actual recommends quickly to boost it to the Recommended list. In those rare cases, the tag needs to be removed.

Job: It would be great if a few folks would assume responsibility of doing daily checks to make sure that diaries with the "Recommended" tag are in fact, diaries that actually made the list.
Check the diaries with the tag here: http://www.dailykos.com/tag/Recommended
If you are not sure a diary deserves that tag, cross check with jotter's High Impact Diaries: http://jotter.dailykos.com/

Note that some diaries are on the Recommended Diaries list for a very brief period -- a couple of minutes -- and thus won't be registered by jotter's process or his High Impact Diaries, which only checks the list every six minutes. I had this happen with a diary of mine once; I may still have the screenshot of that list on my computer. I added the tag myself, and would be annoyed if it disappeared, since it's valid. --Sardonyx

Recheck Completed Jobs

Recheck tags on the completed jobs page to make sure none of the bad tags have reappeared. [All rechecked and OK as of August 19, 2007]

Tag:cleanup jobs completed

Completed Jobs

The tags from Completed Jobs have been moved to the Tag:cleanup jobs completed page so we can easily recheck for bad tags that inevitably recur. The jobs themselves are moved intact—at the same time—to the bottom of the latest archive page, currently Tag:Completed Cleanup Jobs Archive Page 4; by moving completed jobs from here to there, we keep this page from getting too long.

Kharma tips for volunteers who helped complete these jobs. Thank you!
