Dave Heineman is the Republican Governor of Nebraska. He was appointed as lieutenant governor in 2001 when his predecessor, David Maurstad, was named as Denver Regional FEMA director, and he was elected to that position in 2002. He became Governor after the previous governor, Mike Johanns, left to become Secretary of Agriculture in January 2005.
