Delaware General Assembly

The Delaware General Assembly is a bicameral legislature comprised of the Delaware Senate with 21 members and the Delaware House of Representatives with 41 members. Members are elected in the general election immediately preceeding the beginning of the term or in special elections called to fill vacancies.
Representatives are elected to a two year term without term limits. Republicans currently hold 26 of these seats and 15 are held by Democrats.
Senators are elected to a four-year term without term limits, except when reapportionment occurs at which time Senators may be elected to a two-year term. Democrats currently hold 13 of these seats and 8 are held by Republicans.
The General Assembly meets at the state capital of Dover, Delaware, convening sessions on the second Tuesday of January of each calendar year and normally being required to adjourn that session by the last day of June of the same calendar year.
