From dKosopedia
Frank Murkowski was the Republican Governor of Alaska from 2003-2006. He was the most unpopular governor in America, and he lost his primary contest for re-election, see Alaska gubernatorial election, 2006.
Murkowski won the governor's race after resigning his seat in the U.S. Senate, where he served from 1981-2002. As the newly elected governor, one of his first tasks was to appoint a replacement Senator, so he chose his own daughter, Lisa Murkowski to take his place.
On June 2, 2006. Murkowski signed legislation re-criminalizing marijuana possession in the state. The ACLU is challenging the law.
