Gary Locke

When Gary Locke (D) was elected governor of Washington in 1996, he became the first Asian American governor of any state outside of Hawaii, and the first Chinese American governor of any state. He was re-elected in 2000. In 2004 he declined to seek a third term. Before his term as governor, Locke was a state representative and King County executive.
