Gary Okino
From dKosopedia
Gary Okino, a former Democrat and former Honolulu City Councilmember who represented council district 8, lost the election to represent state House 33rd District (Halawa-Aiea)in the Hawaii State Legislature. The election pitted Okino, who is a Christian conservative and against the passage of a civil unions law, against Rep. Blake Oshiro who is the author of HR 444, the civil unions bill that failed passage in the 2010 state legislature.
Okino has resigned the Democratic Party, heading off a potential expulsion from the party for his support of Republican candidates in this year's elections. The Democratic Party, however, may still mete out punishment.
Prior to becoming a councilmember in 2000, Okino was a City Planner for the City and County of Honolulu for 33 years.
