Talk:Gay Rights

From dKosopedia

Crap, I just spent four hours on a comprehensive chronology of gay marriage cases, from 1971 to the present, links and everything - and I lost it. ARGH. PeteyP 11:18, 29 May 2004 PDT

Oh man, I feel your pain. It only took about 20 similar experiences on wikis and message boards to convince me to write stuff in an external editor and cut-n-paste. --Eli 21:12, 31 May 2004 (PDT)

This really deserves to be a bunch of pages rather than one big grab bag. I've split off the marriage-related topics onto their own pages, and I think the same should be done for many of the other sections. Not just because it looks more wiki-like, but because then you can link to things like same-sex marriage from other pages. --Eli 11:24, 29 May 2004 (PDT)

(BTW, thanks, JamesB3, for the many excellent contributions. My only other quibble is that it doesn't look too great to put placeholder text on the page, like the note under "don't ask/don't tell" - reminders/suggestions like that are what these Talk pages are for.) --Eli 13:00, 29 May 2004 (PDT)

Which placeholder text are you referring to? The entry for Matt Foreman?

No, I meant this: "add stuff here about Don't Ask Don't Tell and what a crock it is." -Eli

BTW, did you (or someone else) put the new entry for Anita Bryant? I put the one on the gay rights page, I can't remember if I put the separate entry for her though.

Not me. -Eli

I'm sorry if I cluttered up the gay rights area, I guess I just feel that there are many other chapters beyond marriage. --JamesB3 13:04, 29 May 2004 (PDT)

Huh? I certainly didn't mean to imply that marriage is the only topic or the most important topic. As I said, there are plenty of topics on this page that merit their own page. I just had to pick somewhere to start editing, & I picked marriage partly because there are lots of current-events stories that should link there. Of course there should still be a big gay rights page - all I'm saying is that there's no reason to try to cram all the details onto one page, when you have a wiki. --Eli 13:28, 29 May 2004 (PDT)

This is all pretty new to me...I still don't even know how to create a new page! How do you do that? I tried sandbox and that didn't work out for me.

I didn't put the stuff about don't ask don't tell, but I see your point.--JamesB3 13:39, 29 May 2004 (PDT)

Yeah, dKosopedia still lacks instructions - but here's how to start a page in Wikipedia. Basically either find a page that already has a link to the nonexistent topic, like Kang and Kodos, or add one on some appropriate page (could use a Talk page for this, like I just did, or Sandbox or your user page) and then click on it. Check out the "naming conventions" section too, on picking the best title for pages since it's kind of a pain to change page titles later. --Eli 15:38, 29 May 2004 (PDT)
