George Elmer Pataki was elected 53rd Governor of New York in 1994 by defeating the Democratic incumbent, Mario Cuomo. He served three terms, having beaten Peter Vallone (D) in 1998 and Carl McCall (D) and Tom Golisano (I) in 2002. He retired in 2006.

Selected Biography
Before being elected Governor, George Pataki served 10 years in the New York State Legislature and was Mayor of his hometown. He was the youngest mayor ever of the city of Peekskill, New York and was re-elected with the largest plurality in the city's history.
