Incumbent Georgia 10th Congressional district Republican Representative Charlie Norwood died on Feb. 13, 2007 at age 65. Under Georgia state election law the state's Governor is empowered to set a special election date to fill the empty seat. Republican Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue set June 19, 2007 as the special election date. If no candidate wins a majority of the vote, then July 17 will be the date of the run-off special election.

- Comments: Whitehead's string of gaffes led to a stinging anti-endorsement from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Whitehead is planning to skip the remaining candidate's debates, and devote his money to a TV ad blitz.
- Primary Results: Whitehead 44%, Broun 21%, Marlow 20%. Whitehead and Broun will meet in the runoff on July 17.
- Runoff Results: Paul Broun, Jr. won the runoff by less than 400 votes, out of 46,000 cast.
