Hawaii County two percent land preservation law

Hawai'i County's 2 percent land preservation charter ammendment was voted approved by the county populace in the November 2006 general election. 2 percent of the county's annual tax collections are now placed in a Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Fund.

Soon after the laws enactment, councilmembers, on November 29, 2006 voted on priorities for acquisition :

By unanimous vote, lawmakers adopted a policy listing the acquisition of the 785-acre Kawaa Bay as the top priority for land preservation.

The Waipio Valley parcel is second, followed by the Honolii land and the Puapuaa parcel in Kailua-Kona. [1]
