James Abrams Garfield is the 20th President of the United States in 1881, a Republican back when that was the liberal leaning party, not a large lasgna eating cat.
He is notable mostly as an object lesson in the importance of the Secret Service (he was assassinated by a crazy guy), the benefits of modern medical care, and the importance of the institution of the Vice Presidency (not that his Vice-President, Chester Arthur was anything to write home about, he passed civil service reform and argued over tariffs). He died eight months into office of complications of a gunshot wound months after he was actually shot.
