John E. Sununu

Republican John E. Sununu is a Senator from New Hampshire. He was elected to the Senate in 2002, first defeating incumbent Bob Smith in a September primary and then edging out three-term Democratic governor Jeanne Shaheen in the general election, losing to Shaheen in a 2008 rematch. Sununu previously represented New Hampshire's 1st Congresional District for three terms.

His nickname was "The Sprinter" for his ads with little content other than him running around trying to show his vitality. He was also known for sprinting towards George W. Bush, voting with him 90% of the time.

He is the son of John H. Sununu, a former New Hampshire Governor best known as White House Chief of Staff under George H.W. Bush. The last name is of Finnish origin.
