Ken Stepp

From dKosopedia

Ken Stepp was the Democratic candidate for Kentucky's 5th District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, but he lost to the incumbent. An attorney, Stepp is a military veteran who served in the Navy during the War in Vietnam, earning the rank of Navy Lieutenant and designation as one of the Fighting Dems. He is married, has 3 children and lives in Barbourville.

Money Problems

Stepp won the 2006 Democratic Party Primary by defeating James W. Tapley and faces 13th term incumbent Republican Representative Hal Rogers in the November general election. His campaign stategery is straightforward: "I'll be trying to link up my Republican opponent with the Republican governor (Ernie Fletcher), who's been indicted for misdemeanors, and the Republican president, who's fairly unpopular." Rogers has a $1.3 million war chest while Stepp hasn't filed a campaign finance disclosure report. That doesn't sound promising.

Guns

Stepp descibes gun ownership as "God-given right" in one of his campaign web-page editorials. Hyperbole aside, while this position is far from universal among Democrats, it is certainly utterly uncontroversial among his would-be constituents.
