Kevin McCarthy (IA) is the Democratic Majority Leader in the Iowa State House. He was the state political director for Sen. Joe Lieberman's presidential campaign during the 2004 Iowa caucuses. McCarthy began his career in politics working for Attorney General Tom Miller on his 1994 campaign and then worked as an executive officer in the attorney general's office.

He is the son of Des Moines Chief of Police William McCarthy.

He is not related to Kevin McCarthy (CA), a Republican Congressman from California.
