Lois Murphy (D) ran for Congress in Pennsylvania's 6th District, but she lost to 2nd term Congressman Jim Gerlach (R), see Pennsylvania U.S. House election, 2006.
She also ran against Gerlach in 2004, and received 49% of the vote. Gerlach defeated Dan Wofford (son of former US Senator Harris Wofford) in 2002. The 2004 campaign was managed by Julie Stauch, and despite racking up a substantial margin in her base of Montgomery Couny and holding her own in Berks County, Gerlach was still able to pull out a 6000 or so vote win on the strength of his performance in his home base of Chester County.
The 2006 campaign was targeted by the DCCC from day one with well over $2mm raised and spent by both sides. Campaign manager Jill Harris set out to hold the line in Berks and Chester Counties while picking up the 10,000 votes left on the table (the drop-off from the top of the ticket) in Montgomery County. In the end, the campaign exceeded the goal in both Montgomery and Chester, but failed to do so in Berks resulting in a 3000 vote defeat.
