Missouri Judiciary.
The Missouri Supreme Court consists of a chief justice and six associate justices. The intermediate court is the court of appeals, with 32 judges. The governor appoints supreme court justices and appellate judges, who must be confirmed in office by voters after one year. Thereafter, they must be reconfirmed by voters every 12 years.
The principal trial courts are the circuit courts. The state’s 133 circuit court judges serve 6-year terms; most are popularly elected, but those of St. Louis and Jackson counties are selected in the manner of supreme court justices.
