Rob Portman is a Repulican from Ohio. He is the former Director of the Office of Management and Budget, and before that he was U.S. Trade Representative. Portman had served in the U.S. House from Ohio from 1993 (winning a special election) until 2005. He served as Budget director from April 2006 to June 2007.
Prior to his serving in Congress, Portman was an associate in the Washington law firm of Patton Boggs from 1984-1986, where he specialized in international trade law. He worked as an associate and then a partner at the law firm of Graydon, Head and Ritchey from 1986-1989 and 1991-1993 in Cincinnati. He served in the first Bush White House from 1989-1991 as Associate Counsel to the President and later as Director of the White House Office of Legislative Affairs.
In 2004, he raised $100,000 for President George W. Bush's re-election campaign, making him a Bush Pioneer.
Portman resides in Cincinnati, Ohio with his wife Jane and their three children.
