Robert J. Johnson

From dKosopedia

Robert J. Johnson is a Democratic physician and veteran from New York who has twice run against incumbent Republican John McHugh for the 23rd Congressional District of New York, and twice been defeated (see New York U.S. House election, 2006). He is one of the Fighting Dems.

He served on active duty in the United States Army Reserve from 1989 to 1991 as Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Medical Corp during the Persian Gulf War. Incredibly, he has been on the TSA's no fly list since January of 2006.

From his website:

Bob decided to run for Congress shortly after the Medicare “reform” bill was passed in 2003. He immediately realized that it represented the first step towards the privatization of all of Medicare and Social Security by forcing seniors into private HMO plans. The law was designed by lobbyists for the large drug and insurance companies and accompanied by lavish campaign contributions to our congress. It was a give away at the expense of our senior citizens and all taxpayers.

Born in New York City in 1950, Dr. Johnson attended the public schools in Toms River, NJ and obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Rutgers College, New Brunswick, NJ and Masters of Arts from Princeton University, Princeton, NJ before obtaining his MD from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN. He is in the private practice of Thoracic (chest) surgery in Watertown at Samaritan Medical Center.

He and his wife Mary have two children.
