With a population of 895,000 (2000 Census), San Jose is the most populous city in the Bay Area and third-largest in California. The "Capital of Silicon Valley" is home to companies such as eBay, Cisco Systems, and a major IBM research center. It has seen its fortunes go up and down along with those of the high-technology sector in general.
While San Jose has few African-Americans, 25% of the city population is Asian-American and 30% is Hispanic.
