Steve Symms

From dKosopedia

Steve Symms is a Republican politician. He represented Idaho in the U.S. Congress from 1973-1981, and in the U.S. Senate from 1981-1993. In 1972 he ran as a "libertarian Republican" under the slogan "take a bite out of big government". In the 1980 election he defeated Democratic Senator Frank Church.

Symms' voting record in Congress was anti-choice and he was one of a handful of Republican Senators who expressed discontent over the nomination of Sandra Day O'Connor to the Supreme Court, because of suspicion she would be unwilling to overturn Roe v. Wade.

He was the source of the false rumors in 1988 that Kitty Dukakis burned a flag during a protest against the Vietnam War, which was one of several Republican dirty tricks that helped sink the Presidential campaign of Michael Dukakis.
