Tammy Baldwin

From dKosopedia

Tammy Baldwin is the Democratic Representative from the Second Congressional District of Wisconsin WI-02, which includes liberal Madison, Wisconsin and University of Wisconsin.

Baldwin began her political career on the Dane County Board of Supervisors in 1986, and next served as Dane County Supervisor from 1986-1994. She was elected to the 78th district of the Wisconsin Assembly in November 1992 and served until January 1999. She has represented Wisconsin's 2nd district since January 1999. First Wisconsin woman to be elected to the House, first out lesbian in the US Congress, first openly gay candidate to be elected to Congress. Tammy has been noted for her ability to energize college students and other constituents for high voter turnouts. Every year, including this year, will be a tough fight, but Tammy has defeated everyone from moderate to viciously anti-gay Republicans. She serves in the proud Russ Feingold tradition of progressive policies and straight talk.

Tammy spoke on July 26, 2004 at the Democratic National Convention.

Ms. Baldwin has signed onto the Resolution of Inquiry on Downing Street Memos, House Resolution 375, as of July 21, 2005. [1]
