The Blitz

From dKosopedia

The Blitz began in London on 7 September 1940 after the Battle of Britain ended in a defeat for the Germans. Before the last bombing raid 251 days later, on 16 May 1941, 43,000 people had been killed, an average of just over 170 a day, in London and other cities of the UK. 140,000 were injured, a million homes were destroyed and about 1,400,000 people made homeless.

The Channel 4 documentary "Blitz: London's Firestorm", is an account of one of the most intense nights of bombing, on December 29 1940, with eye-witnesses recounting their memories of the night. It's available from PBS as "The Blitz: London's Longest Night")
