Timothy Pickering

Timothy Pickering was the Federalist junior Senator from Massachusetts who plotted the secession of the northern states in 1803-1804. He envisioned a country allied with Britain comprised of New England, New York. New Jersey and Pennsylvania together with Lower Canada and the Canadian Maritime Provinces. The crisis of secession passed and by 1804 Federalist candidates were only being elected in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Delaware.
