Background
Representative Allen was born on April 16th, 1945 in Portland, Maine.
After high school, Tom attended Bowdoin College, where he graduated in 1967 with honors. [1]
As a result of Tom’s academic, athletic and leadership achievements at Bowdoin, he was named a Rhodes Scholar, allowing him to attend Oxford University in England, where he studied political science, economics and philosophy for three years. [2]
In the summer of 1968, Tom worked in Augusta for Gov. Ken Curtis on housing issues. Following graduation from Oxford and his time in Africa, he worked for U.S. Senator Edmund S. Muskie. In 1971, he enrolled in Harvard Law School. After graduating in 1974, he practiced in the Portland law firm Drummond, Woodsum, Plimpton and MacMahon for 19 years. [3]
In 1989, Tom was elected to Portland City Council. He served on the Council from 1989 to 1995. [4]
On May 8, 2007 Allen announced his candidacy for Senate in 2008 [5]
